Our Story

Hi, I’m Sahar, the baker behind the logo at Grateful Bread.
By day I’m a realtor, helping families across the Santa Clarita Valley find a place they’ll call home. When the day winds down, I head to my kitchen. Baking, and sourdough most of all, is how I take care of myself. There’s something grounding about feeding a starter, folding dough and waiting while time and wild yeast do their work. It’s how I slow down, breathe and recharge.
Real Sourdough, Made Slowly
What started as a quiet hobby grew into Grateful Bread. Every loaf is naturally leavened with my live sourdough starter, never commercial yeast, and made with organic flour. Each dough ferments slowly for 24 hours or more. That long fermentation does more than build flavor. It breaks down much of the gluten and starch, so many people find real sourdough easier to digest and gentler on blood sugar than ordinary store-bought bread.
I believe in health without sacrificing happiness. Good food should nourish your body and make you smile, and you shouldn’t have to choose. That idea is behind everything I bake, from our Original Sourdough to Cranberry Walnut and JalapeƱo Cheddar.
The Soundtrack of My Kitchen
There’s always music playing while I bake. Classic country, folk and rock keep me company through every fold and shape, and the Grateful Dead top the list. Some of the artists who inspire me:
- Grateful Dead
- Willie Nelson
- The Beatles
- Waylon Jennings
- Creedence Clearwater Revival
Rooted in the Santa Clarita Valley
Community means everything to me. I’m a mom of two and vice president of the PTA at my daughter’s school. I’m also an avid reader, and I recently started Bookish & Clever, a book club here in the Santa Clarita Valley. A warm slice of bread and a good book are hard to beat.
Thank you for supporting a small, local, homegrown bakery. I’m truly grateful. It’s right there in the name.
Local delivery is available on orders over $85. Your delivery day may need to be arranged in advance.
